Swiss authorities have recently been in online casinos news in Switzerland by closing many unrecognized operators. On Tuesday, the Swiss Federal Gaming Board (CFMJ) published a new list of unauthorized operators in the territory. CasinosNews has an update on this significant legal decision.

27 new operators now banned by the CFMJ

The ban imposed by the CFMJ now makes 172 domains inaccessible from Switzerland (i.e. 27 additional operators). Your internet service provider applies the geoblocking of sites, so there is no point in changing browsers to circumvent these restrictions.

The ban only affects operators holding a Curaçao license. Licensed providers under English casino 788-SB (directly linked to the Bet365 platform) are not affected.

The Swiss Lottery and Betting Board also banned certain platforms

In addition to the 27 operators banned by the CFMJ, the Swiss Lottery and Betting Board also added other online platforms to the list on Tuesday March 17, 2020. The Swiss authority effectively added 13 operators to its blacklist, which means that a total of 101 domains are inaccessible to the territory. The Bet365 platform is also on the list of services banned in Switzerland. And two casinos licensed by Alderney Wirwetten are also affected by this new legislation.

Newly authorized land-based casinos for the web

Since January 1, 2019, Switzerland has authorized its land-based casinos to offer an online version of their services. Therefore, the recent decisions of the CFMJ and the Swiss Lottery and Betting Board target a “consolidation” of the market for online gambling on Swiss territory.

As such, the Interlaken casino (located in Bern) has offered since December 2019. Other establishments are also announcing promising partnerships. For example, Groupe Partouche’s next site is slated for a early-mid 2020 release according to several sources.

The authorization granted to Swiss land-based casinos is particularly pertinent due to the global health crisis linked to Covid-19 that has devastated these physical establishments via social confinement. However, the government’s strategy seems to be an inevitability in the face of a highly contagious viral pandemic.

The next few months will greatly impact the worldwide land-based casino market. On the positive side, the creation of operators associated with renowned establishments will also be exciting news for iGaming. CasinosNews will continue to diligently analyze all information about these “new” operators in an objective manner.

The CFMJ has banned 27 additional operators since Tuesday, March 17, 2020. Which platforms are affected by this new legislation? Read the article for more details.
